Prayers to God-With-Us

Responsive prayers by Thomas Robb, for use any Sunday in the Green Season.

Out of the depths of our brokenness we lift our needs and concerns to you, Lord.

God-With-Us, pour out your Holy Wisdom upon us.

Holy Wisdom, clothe our church and its leaders with courage and humility.

Spirit of God, grace all in authority with wisdom and civility.

Father, your people suffer fire and drought, flood and war, unemployment and starvation.

Lord, hear our voices.  Without you who can stand?

God of the empty places and desert sands, we wait for you.  There is no other.

Bread of Life, Manna of Grace, soothe your people’s suffering.

Author of Life who suffers with us, shower your peace on our beloved departed.

Glory of God, comfort those of us left behind.

Lover of Souls, you go to and fro searching us out.

Teach us to be present to God.

Present to God’s Spirit moving us

Present to Love

Present to Life

Present to each other

May we be always wholly present

And present to the Holy

May it ever be so.

Amen.

That’s Tom Robb, who wrote these prayers, in the middle row beside his wife, Anita.

These prayers were first used on August 12, 2012 (the eleventh Sunday after Pentecost) at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Port Townsend, Washington.

NOTES:

The opening “Out of the depths…” from Psalm 130:1.

The response “Bread of Life…” from John 6:35.
